Why We Joined 1% for the Planet

Think of a place you return to outdoors. It may be a mountain trail, a stretch of coast, or a path near home that you know by heart. You remember the ground underfoot, the changing light, and the moment you decide to stay a little longer.

Those places are part of why Altapano exists. We make gear for people who want to keep exploring, and we want to take responsibility for the places that make that possible. That is why Altapano has joined 1% for the Planet.

What the one percent means

The idea is straightforward: 1% for the Planet asks its business members to contribute at least one percent of annual sales to approved environmental impact partners. Altapano’s commitment covers our entire brand’s annual sales. The calculation uses sales revenue rather than profits.

It is a commitment made by the business. You do not need to add a separate donation at checkout. Our role is to follow through on that commitment and direct support to partners whose work meets the network’s standards.

The organization also has an annual verification process: members provide sales records and evidence of eligible contributions so the one percent can be checked. Joining is the beginning of that work. Certification follows when a member’s contributions for a fiscal year have been reviewed. We will speak about our own results when we have verified details to share.

Why it belongs in our story

Our promise has always been Keep Going. We believe a good day outside should remain part of life for years to come. That belief is about people, but it is also connected to the places people love to walk through and return to.

Joining 1% for the Planet gives that belief a clear financial commitment. It ties a portion of our sales to support for environmental work, through a network that checks which partners and contributions qualify. We chose that structure because a promise should be specific enough to measure.

Our part is to make the commitment, do the work each year, and share what we can substantiate as Altapano grows. We will name the partners we support and report confirmed contributions when those details are available.

The everyday choices still matter

Giving is one part of how we think about our place outdoors. The equipment we make should also be comfortable to use, simple to understand, and worth bringing on the next walk. If a piece of gear serves you well for years, its value goes beyond an impressive first impression.

The same practical attention belongs on the trail. Learn the rules of the place you visit. Stay on marked routes where required, carry out what you bring in, and leave space for other people to enjoy it. A nearby path deserves that care as much as a famous park does.

There is more outside than any one of us can see in a lifetime. We want the places that keep calling us back to have a future, too. Joining 1% for the Planet is one way Altapano is putting that intention into practice.
